For this picture while I wanted the background to make a big impact on the photo as a whole I also wanted the figure to play a significant role in the picture therefore they both share the screen and are both in focus.
With the focus and composition of the picture both being shared I wanted to portray a sense of longing in the photo. Not a sad gloomy longing but an excited longing. An almost longing for the future as she sits and contemplates on her rock. A very casual picture while at the same time representing the future and what could come.
I didn't really brainstorm or plan anything about this image. I was up north with my three very best friends and we were on the beach at night talking about everything the future, the now, the past. Everything. My best friend Rachel took up shop on a rock just by the seaside and couldn't help but snap a picture with that background and that look in front of my eyes.
The goal of this image was not an intentional goal. But now that I have looked at this picture over and over again as I went through the editing process the goal of this picture is to represent a sense of calm when there is so much unknown in front of us. Relax take a drink and enjoy what you have around you.
I think everyone can take away from this image an idealistic view on life. As the subject looks into the future, the past, and the now regardless of what is happening in her life she is here in the now smiling and enjoying what she has in front of her.

Others interpreted this image as a pretty picture. The background is beautiful and definitely a major element of the picture the woman in the foreground also adds another layer to the photograph.
What is working for this picture is the whole feeling it portrays there was definitely a feeling of calm and serene. At the same time the contrast could have been upped and maybe that would have added another dimension to the photo that it doesn't have without the contrast.
As a jumping off point I might use this portrait to start a series involving beaches and people. How they interact and how they compliment one another.

This picture is all about the emphasis on the subject of the picture. The lighting, framing, and contrast represent and portray the subject as the foremost object and foremost important object within the photo. I really tried to play with the contrast in the editing process in order to once again illuminate the subject.
This picture is all about the girl. This picture is all about the girl and her expression and her body almost being illuminated by the surrounding light. This picture is all about the love of life this girl is exuding through the photo.
I once again didn't really have a method to this image much like the one before. I didn't plan or brainstorm anything about this image I was outside with my best friends and couldn't help but capture the moment that left Lindy keeling over she was laughing so hard.
I wanted this picture to exude happiness, excitement, and a joy for life. For the first two pictures I wanted to portray a sense of life a sense of extreme happiness a sense and joy for life.
I didn't base this on any other artist I was basing this on "in the moment". This picture is completely candid and complete content. I think everyone can take away from this picture a want and love for life and to not give up even when times are hard because there are times like these ahead or in your past.

Much like I was attempting to portray many interpreted this image as happiness. Pure happiness was expressed in this image and much like it was supposed to that is what was expressed to the audience.
The contrast was really working in this image without being too much and the feeling of the photo was definitely working but the framing maybe could have been better. While the girl is the center of the photograph the top of the photo may have been a bit distracting.
As a starting off point I was hoping that I would be able to use this picture as the starting point for a series of portraits. Candid portraits that exude heightened emotions. All different and all different people.

I wanted the focus to be on two things. I needed emphasis on the camera and the bracelets. While there is a lot going on in the image but I think the lighting and contrast frames the subject and more importantly what he subject is attempting to portray.
I wanted this image to portray a sense of self-portraiter without having to see the eyes and the face of the subject. I wanted the viewer to know what this subject was about without seeing the soul of the subject, also known as the eyes.
I didn't plan on even taking these pictures but a couple nights ago as I was about to take a shower I looked in the mirror and as cheesy as this might sound I looked straight into my own eyes and realized that if I were to take a self portrait I wouldn't even involved my face because those are not the things that fully represent me as a person.
Motivations for this image were as easy as a self portrait. I wanted to use elements to fully represent me as a human being as Allie Ulnick and a lot of times who I am is represented by the things I do and what I believe in rather than what I look like.
I think everyone can take away from this image the fact that when you look at yourself don't think you are just your appearance you are what you make of yourself.

For this image a sense of identity and person was portrayed. This was a self portrait so that is what was intended. A sense of individualism was also constantly mentioned.
This image the whole concept was definitely working with the sense of identity being masked by the camera and bangles the two things that truly represent who I am rather than my face. Contrast again definitely could have been extremely exaggerated and I think it would have added another element to the picture that currently is missing. It is almost bland and flat without that contrast.
I could definitely use this portrait as a jumping off point for a series involving self portraits. But rather than the usual self portrait it would be a series of self portraits and rather than the face it would be objects and representations of me as a being rather than my actual body and face.

Personally I approach the last image as extremely striking. The contrast is hard especially when taking note to the single piece of hair fighting through the screen while the rest of her head and hair are much darker. The framing I believe is also quite harsh with not the whole face being revealed and at the same time so close you almost wonder what the picture is of.
I don't believe this picture to be anything intense or extremely thought provoking I think this image is about the subject doing those things while we watch over her and she struggles, or smiles, but in a nutshell when she thinks.
This picture although you cannot see is taken on the beach and my best friend Nana was the subject. Much like the other pictures placed on the beach there was no plan or brainstorming that took place. I did want to take a different angle after taking pictures on the beach all day so I started taking pictures with different angles and this turned out to be a striking photograph.
Like all of the beach pictures I wanted to portray a sense of calm and almost pensiveness. Content. And this picture does all of that. While it is almost ironic that the picture is striking and the composition making up that same photo is just as harsh because the face and expression spilled across the face represent content and happiness along with a sense of thought.
Nothing about this picture relates to the work or ideas of other artists but rather relates to the workings and ideas represented by the subject in the photo. I once again want this photo much like the others taken on the beach to represent that everything will be ok. Live in the moment and confront the challenges you might face and appreciate the happiness you may experience but all in all enjoy your life.

This image was seen as emotional. Because of the framing and emphasis it was portrayed as an extreme amount of emotion. Whether it be happy or sad or anywhere in between there was an extreme feeling of emotion and feeling within the photo.
The contrast of the hair against the face and the sharpness of the photo is definitely working because that heightens the emotion feeling within the picture. While that is working something that really isn't working is the blur at the bottom of the screen it almost looks unintentional and maybe something that was forgotten in the editing process.
As a jumping off point I would absolutely use this picture as the first in a series of faces. Different parts of faces that portray immense amounts of emotion. It doesn't have to include the eyes whatsoever but some part of the face would be pictured capturing emotion.
